GALWAY-based show jumper Sven Hadley had a successful trip to Sentower Park in Belgium last weekend where he picked up three victories in the one and two-star divisions.
He got up and running on the opening day with victory in the two-star 1.30m two-phase aboard his own 14-year-old mare Topspin. The pair were the fastest of a huge 52 double clears in the class which had 84 starters, beating Belgium’s Ines Van den Bosch into second place, while Britain’s Christopher Smith was third.
Topspin was then runner-up in Friday’s 1.30m, just beaten by Britain’s Nathan Bull and Milton van Vrijhern.
Hadley’s other win on the opening day came in the one-star 1.25m aboard his home-bred Irish Sport Horse stallion HSH Harper Du Seigneur (Aganix du Seigneur Z x Chippison). The talented six-year-old stallion was the fastest of 22 clear rounds in the two-phase competition to win ahead of Belgium’s Dennis Caubergs with Kim-Unlimited.
Hadley then won Friday’s one-star 1.25m class aboard the 10-year-old Irish Sport Horse gelding Garryduff Jar of Hearts (Zandeur x Furisto) who is owned by James Joyce. It was a first international outing for the pair and they raced to victory in 27.37 seconds.
Fellow Galway rider Thomas O’Brien was third with the seven-year-old stallion Villefort, owned by Petra Schraml-Dussle, breaking the beam in 27.95. Splitting the Irish duo was France’s Lucile Rybicki in second place (0/0 27.40).
Hadley and Garryduff Jar of Hearts then capped the weekend by finishing third in Sunday’s one-star Grand Prix. They were one of 11 double clears in 33.91 seconds. Tori Dunn slotted into sixth place with the Suma Stud-bred Irish Sport Horse gelding Sumas Taloubet (Taloubet VDL x Pride of Shaunlara), clear against the clock in 35.90 seconds.
