WARRENPOINT’s Adam Morgan got off to a good start at his new job at Sean Cubitt’s Bruntwood Stables, winning a two-star class in Oliva, Spain, last week.
The 24-year-old who previous worked at Ashford Farm and for world champion Simone Blum, has taken over the ride on a number of horses formerly ridden by Dutch international Kim Emmen. His victory came in last Saturday’s 1.30m Accumulator aboard the eight-year-old mare Lady Angeles.
They scored the maximum points of 65 in 49.85 seconds, beating Britain’s Sameh El Dahan and the Joe Sloan-bred Irish Sport Horse mare WKD Valencia (Valent x Master Imp) in second place (65/ 52.01).
At the same venue, Co Louth’s Mark McAuley won the one-star 1.40m Grand Prix with his loyal servant, the 17-year-old gelding Miebello. The gelding, who has jumped at the highest level of the sport and on numerous Nations Cup teams for Ireland, was the best of six double clears in the class.
McAuley was third in Sunday’s 1.40m two-phase with the nine-year-old mare Esmeralda De Hus Z. The pair were among 24 double clear rounds in 30.58 seconds. Victory went to Italy’s Emilio Bicocchi with Flinton (0/0 28.98).
Power on a roll
Fifteen-year-old Aoibheann Power had a memorable start to her international career when it culminated in a victory in Sunday’s one-star 1.10m with Joanne Sloan-Allen’s 13-year-old Irish Sport Horse mare Bally Kingdom Clover. The pair were the best of five clears against the clock in 34.85 seconds.
The victory came one day after they were runners-up and earlier in the week they finished fourth, never knocking a pole.
