TIPPERARY’s Thomas Ryan and Co Louth’s Mark McAuley both picked up a win and multiple placings at the one and two-star show in Gorla Minore, Italy, last weekend.

French-based McAuley was first off the mark with a win in Saturday’s seven-year-old Table A class. Riding Monsieur Laurent Guillet’s Selle Français gelding Al Capone Massuere (Nabbuco x Come On), he posted a blistering round in 59.08 seconds. Ryan was eighth with Alcapone des Carmille (Diamant de Semilly x Heartbreaker) in a time of 71.37 seconds.

Ryan then reversed those placings with taking the top spot in Sunday’s seven-year-old 1.35m jump-off final. Again riding John Österdahl and Sylve Söderstrand’s French-bred, he was clear in a time of 40.34 seconds.

McAuley was up on the time with Al Capone Massuere in 39.06 seconds, but a fence down meant he had to settle for fifth.

Swiss-based Ryan was close to repeating that victory in the six-year-old division when finishing second with Clarence V (Clarimo ASK x Quite Capitol) when a double clear in 43.66 seconds.

Young Co Clare rider Noelle Barry, who is based in Switzerland with the 2017 Dublin Grand Prix winner Werner Muff, placed fifth in Saturday’s 1.45m world ranking class aboard Coranto (Canturo x Contendro I). Owned by Muff, the nine-year-old gelding was double clear in 33.32 seconds to pick up almost €2,000.
