THE Boomerang six and seven-year-old Final is always one of the most hotly contested classes for youngsters on the National circuit.
Named after the most famous of all jumpers, Eddie Macken’s winning mount of 32 major international Grands Prix and four consecutive Hickstead Derbies, this class aims to uncover a future international superstar.
This year’s winner comes from an operation known for breeding and producing the best of Irish horses, the Hughes family.
HHS Ice Flow was ridden to first place by Molly Hughes Bravo. Owned by Maurice Devlin, the seven-year-old mare is by Iceman De Muze, out of HHS Go With The Flo by Cyrano 145 and was bred by Kevin Meagher.
They broke the finish beams in a time of 38.31 to secure the win. The runner-up spot went to another from the HHS string, the stallion HHS Flonix (Aganix du Seigneur x Clover Echo), bred by Brendan McSorley and ridden by Mikey Pender. They stopped the clock at 38.56.
Ann Connors’ home-bred Jump the Gun (I’m Special De Muze x Master Imp) was guided into third place by Nicholas Connors in 38.62. Darragh Ryan rode, bred and owns Lady Blue Letot de Pont by Chacoon Blue, who took fourth place.
Sophie Richards on her own and Maurice Cousins’ Belgian-bred mare Havana MK Z were fifth, while Emma O’Dwyer rode her own and Heather Blair’s Dougie Drea by Ard VDL Douglas, bred by Victoria Foster, into sixth place.
