IT may be winding down for the season but it was full steam ahead for Cavan Equestrian as the busy venue hosted the Make-A-Wish Christmas Festival. Sponsored by Allianz, the festival took place over two days with classes for ponies and horses.
On Saturday, victory in the 128cms under 10s went to Leo Dunne and PARC Popper, who also claimed the class on Sunday with the same mount. Not content with the win, Dunne also took fifth place with Wingland Heloise. This combination returned to take the runner-up spot in the 90cms which was won by Katie Nallon with Rashers And Sausages. Second place in the newcomers went to Laura Murphy and Sparkling Mr Castlewarren. Camryn Clarke occupied the next two placings with third (PARC Crème Brulee) and fourth with Damma Sally. Clarke also took third on Sunday with the same charge, just behind Amie Care and Wee Jack.
Taking the honours in the one metre on Saturday was was Alex Finney and Ballyknock Master Roan. Finney returned on Sunday to take the 128cms 90cms with Some Journey and the one metre class with Ballyknock Master Roan. Katie Nallon picked up another rosette when taking the runner-up spot with Rashers And Sausages in the 90cms.
Also collecting a selection of rosettes on Sunday was Marta Bravo. Among her results was second in the 128cms 1m and third in the 128-90cms with Bravo’s Cocky Rocky.

In the one metre class, it was Ellen Kenny and Double Dash Dot who took the win ahead of Ally Rose and Ballydoolagh Abbey. Alex Finney added to her haul when claiming third with Coltstown Dun Cruiser. Ciaran Nallon continued his winning ways, leading the victory lap in the 1.10m with Quest Du Buhot. John Murray and Quantum Qt occupied second place, ahead of Seamus Hennessy and Ballylinn Champ.
Finney went one better, claiming the one metre on Sunday with Coltstown Dun Cruiser. Erin Crawford slotted into second place with Sundance Prince, ahead of Chloe Fagan and Simply The Best Tyson. Nallon returned to take the 1.10m with Quest Du Buhot while Trudie McCoosh and Lily Clover’s super performance ensured them second. Fractions behind was Ally Rose on Ballydoolagh Abbey.

On Saturday, victory in the 90cms was claimed by Orla Henry and Dromahaire Dodger, while on Sunday, it was Samuel Wilson and Springhill Clover who took the honours in this division.
In Saturday’s one metre class, it was was Olivia Roulston and Drumdoit V-Tec who took the red rosette. Placed second was Tiernan Gray and Menlo Flight ahead of Sinead Reidy’s Bobby Blue Socks.
Roulston continued her winning ways on the second day, taking the one metre class with Drumdoit V-Tec, ahead of Annie Courtney-Cadam and Attyrory Clover Lilly. Victory in Saturday’s 1.10m belonged to John Murray and Mathius. Olivia Roulston was back to claim another rosette taking second with Valley Clover Dream, ahead of Cian Harrison and Where’s My Colour.
In Saturday’s 1.20m class, the win was claimed by Lucy Hancock and Newton Westie while Aisling McGuinness and Lord Of The Rings took second and third place belonged to Grace O’Donnell and Orchid’s Vienna.
There was no stopping Olivia Roulston as she took the honours in the 1.10m on Sunday with Drumdoit V-Tec. Roulston was chased home by Carl Webb and Future Lady, while Charlotte Harding and Newcastle Goblin Girl slotted into third.
On Sunday, the final 1.20m was hard fought but in the end, it was Grace O’Donnell and Orchid’s Vienna who captured the win ahead of Olivia Roulston and Ballygawleys Little Ferro. Third place was occupied by Kirsti Connole and Beech Hall.
