fischerRocana retired from eventing

GERMANY’s Olympic champion Michael Jung has announced the retirement of his multiple five-star winning mare fischerRocana FST.

The 16-year-old (Itunago XX x Carismo) is among the most decorated horses in the modern day sport, winning the five-star Kentucky Three-Day Event on three consecutive occasions in 2015, 2016, 2017, and runner-up in 2018, just 2.8 penalties behind Britain’s Oliver Townend and Cooley Master Class (ISH).

Jung said the mare will now turn her attention to breeding while living in the paddock with his double individual Olympic gold medal-winning partner, La Biothesque-Sam FBW.

“Last year due to Covid-19, she only went a few small tournaments hoping it can start again this year. She enjoyed a great winter break with Sam in the paddock and when we realized it wouldn’t be much different this year with the big classics, I decided to take her out of the sport,” Jung announced on his social media.

“Because what else can she prove? I think my little fighter has shown more than enough what she can do. I’m very excited about her offspring and seeing her every day with Sam in the meadow.”

FischerRocana secured her first medal as a six-year-old, winning the World Championship for young horses at Le Lion d’Angers in 2011, and went on to take a further eight international events. She won the individual silver medal at the 2014 World Equestrian Games in Normandy, France, as well as helping Germany to team gold.

She was runner-up at Pau five-star in 2014 and 2015 and went on to win a second silver medal at the 2017 European Championships in Strzegom, Poland.
