Sweetnam second

IRISH riders filled two of the top six places in last Thursday night’s $25,000 Hagyard Lexington Classic at the Kentucky Summer Classic. Shane Sweetnam finished as runner-up aboard Spy Coast Farm’s Eregest Van’t Kiezelhof, while Lorcan Gallagher was also among the six riders who made it into the the second round jump-off, taking fifth place overall with Casper.

Victory went to Sydney Shulman and Wamira, who is owned by BCF Group, adding to another Grand Prix victory for Shulman at the same venue a week before.

Ryan features

LIMERICK born Eoin Ryan scored two top-10 finishes at the three-star show in Ciekocinko, Poland last week. He piloted Pascalino to a seventh place finish in a 1.50m class which was won by German rider Marc Bettinger with Bacardi, while he and Pascalino also finished 10th in another 1.50m class which was again won by Bettinger.

Carey double

SHANE Carey was among the prizes at Valberg’s three-star show in Sweden. The former army rider finished third with Contenance 15 in Sunday’s 1.45m class which was won Irma Karlsson. Carey also finished fifth in an earlier 1.40m class at the same venue , this time riding Mulle, with victory going to Johan-Sebastian Gulliksen for Norway.

Duffy victory

MAYO’S Alex Duffy was in action at Donaueschingen-Immenhoefe in Germany last week and scored a win in Sunday’s 1.40m class for seven-year-old horses.

Duffy’s victory came aboard the Berlin-sired mare Dino W, owned by Ballywalter Farm
