Coulis euthanised
Denis Lynch’s horse Coulisa has been put to sleep. After a terrible fall in the Grand Prix in Rotterdam in late June this year, the 10-year-old mare underwent successful surgery for her sustained injuries. Following the surgery, it was reported that Coulisa would undergo a four to eight month recuperation period, but unfortunately the mare did not make it through.
McCarthy win
Young Irish show jumper, Oliver McCarthy, who is currently working and training with top America show jumper, McLain Ward, was first and fourth in the $3,000 open jumper classic in New York last Sunday. McCarthy was won on Crossfire and was fourth on Brightly. Both horses are owned by Ward. McCarthy’s next show will be Wellington, Florida, where Ward bases his top show jumping operation for the winter.
Kings Best double
Kings Best had a highly successful show in Dunkirk, France, racking up two wins in the CSI** speed classes. The Kieran King-owned bay was just pipped in the ride and drive competition, beaten by just a 15th of a second under Co Meath’s Gerard Clark.
Clark was also third in the 1.45m Grand Prix with Rafiki (ISH).
Lynch runner-up
DENIS Lynch was runner up in the 1.55m Grand Prix at Kiel CSI*** with Quote Zavaan, won by Germany’s Jörg Naeve with Cashflow.
Also in Kiel, Thomas Ryan was second in the timed 1.45m class on Quite Zero and was fifth in a 1.50m Grand Prix qualifier with Caribo. Shane Breen was seventh with Farao van’t Vennehof in the same class.
Drain placed
ANTRIM’s Conor Drain placed Zidane sixth in the 1.45m Grand Prix at Marienheen CSI**.
Irish in USA
IRISH riders competed this weekend at the Pennsylvania National Horse Show which hosts its feature class, the $85,000 Grand Prix de Penn National Grand Prix tonight (Saturday).
Among the Irish at the Harrisburg venue are Conor Swail, Shane Sweetnam, Richie Moloney and Kevin Babington. The 10-day event is one of the largest indoor shows on the American circuit with $485,000.
