THE first joint meeting of the Medical Equestrian Association (MEA) of Ireland and the Racecourse Medical Officers Association will take place on Saturday, February 17th next at the Army Equitation School in McKee Barracks.

The meeting and study day is for doctors only and will include a full day of conversation on equestrian safety. Speakers at the event include Dr Antonia Lehane and Dr Brian Murray, who will discuss concussion and post concussion, and Dr Carlos McDowell, who will present a case study on pain management in the field.

Turf Club doctor Adrian McGoldrick, who is regarded as a standout in his field by the jockeys he helps every day, will talk through the facts and figures of racing and point-to-point injuries, while Dr Loretta Nolan will present a discussion on eye injuries in the sport.

Spinal injuries will also be a topic of discussion, with more speakers to be announced.

The day will also include a tour of the Army Equitation School and lunch. The cost of the event is €50 and CME/CPD points will be available for those who attend.
