AN outstanding performance from Irish duo Bertram Allen and Michael G. Duffy, along with Switzerland’s Edouard Schmitz, saw them guide Miami Celtics to a massive victory in the €1.5 million Longines Global Champions League Super Cup Final at Prague in the Czech Republic.
The Celtics trio finished on a final score of 12 faults, with Wexford’s Allen jumping a stunning double clear round with the Irish Sport Horse Pacino Amiro, while Mayo’s Duffy jumped clear in the first round with Clitschko 17.
Miami Celtics finished on exactly the same score as Valkenswaard United, but almost six seconds faster to take the huge win.
Nations Cup placing
Meanwhile in Portugal, Michael Blake’s Irish show jumping team took third place in Sunday's three-star Nations Cup at Vilamoura in Portugal. Tipperary’s Trevor Breen and Germaine W, owned by Mandy Hall, jumped clear in the first round and had one fence down in round two. Derry’s David Simpson with Indian Quality Z, owned by McAlary LLC, had one fence down in the first round and were the discard score second time out with eight faults.
Meath’s Alexander Butler with Coolivio PS, owned by North Star, jumped clear with two time faults in round one and a four fault score in the second round. Sligo’s Richard Howley with Fame, owned by Sarah Borthwick, were the discard score in round one after picking up eight faults and finished with a single fence down in the second round. Ireland finished on a two round score of 18 faults, with victory going to France on an eight fault total.
In Saturday night’s four-star Longines FEI Jumping World Cup Grand Prix in Las Vegas, USA, Derry’s Daniel Coyle and his nine-year-old mount Ivory TCS, claimed a runner-up finish behind American winner Lillie Keenan with Agana van het Gerendal Z
The result moved Coyle up to third place on the league table with Co Down’s Conor Swail retaining pole position.
