FOR the second year in-a-row, Claremorris rider Shane Goggins won the 1.35m Ailish Connolly Memorial Grand Prix at the Cavan Indoor Championships.

In Saturday evening’s class, he guided Neil Egan’s home-bred Cloonbarry Kannalily to the top spot. The mare is an eight-year-old by Kannan out of Cassa Lilly (Cassini II).

An initial start list of 68 was reduced to 14 for the jump-off. Four contenders collected a single time fault, while 16 had one fence down for four faults, and 10 had one fence down and one time fault for five faults.

Goggins was fastest in the decider, guiding Cloonbarry Kannalilly to a second clear round in a time of 32.38 for the win.

Claimed third place

Cavan’s own Camryn Clarke came closest to catching him, when he recorded a time of 32.44 aboard his mother Victoria’s Conto De Reve (Hermes de Reve x Conto), bred by Noleen Kieran.

Another junior rider, Kilkenny’s Emily Moloney, claimed third place riding her father Eddie’s Temple Alice (Foxglen Cruise Control x Rantis Diamond) in 33.26.

Fourth went to Harrison Blair and Rockmount Farms’ L’Esprit Hero Z (Lexicon x For Pleasure) in 33.99.

Jack Kent and Castlefield Breeding Farm’s eight-year-old French-bred mare Guerlain De Hus (Kannan x Levistan) took fifth in 34.30, while John McEntee and his own Dutch-bred Hobalo (Bubalu VDL x Ukato) completed the line up in sixth.
