GELVINS Touch, owned by Victoria Loane and ridden by Dermott Lennon, won the Gain/Alltech 1.40m National Grand Prix sponsored by Cooley Farm at Barnadown on Saturday evening.
A start list of 68 was reduced to 25 after the first round. Just nine of the 25 managed to keep all the fences intact.
Lennon provided the fastest round as 10th to go, stopping the clock at 35.32 for the win and majority of the €4,000 prize fund.
Shane O’Reilly and Brian McConville’s gelding Lancer Luck (Castleforbes Lord Lancer x Coevers Diamond Boy), bred by Thomas Whelan, finished in second place crossing the finish line in 35.49.
Greg Broderick’s BP Hybernia (Flex A Bill x Clover Hill) and young rider Niamh McEvoy took third place in 36.34.
Ethen Ahearne and Dermott Walsh’s eight-year-old LVS Goldrush H (Stakkato Gold x Stakkato) were fourth in 36.89, while Coen Williams and Williams Sport Horses’ Conthanja PS (Conthargos x Grand Step) took fifth in 37.31.
Brendan Murphy and Thomas Foley’s Belgian-bred seven-year-old Roger De Mariposa (Vegabond De La Pomme x Air Jordan Z) completed the line-up in sixth place.
The next and fifth round of the National Grand Prix league takes place today in Hollypark, with the sixth and seventh rounds taking place in Kernans and Wexford next weekend, May 25th and 26th.
