TORI Dunne won Sunday’s 1.20m Grand Final at the Cavan Indoor Championships with her own Z Seven Amour.
By Z Seven Ascot out of the 1.40m mare Caretina (Caretino), the seven-year-old mare, bred in Ireland by Team Z7, was one of just three double clear rounds from the 41-strong class.
Eighteen combinations posted a first round clear. Dunn was first to go in the decider and set the pace with a second clear in a time of 35.57.
The next pair in, Suzanne Posnett riding her mother Pamela’s seven-year-old Dutch-bred Luscinia Eickenrode (Detroit VDL x Silverstone), came close to catching the leader, stopping the clock at 35.74.
Incredibly these standings remained until the end of the class; with Dunn taking first and Posnett second place.
The next 10 combinations would try, but none would match the girls’ clear rounds, until Olivia Roulston and her own and Norman Watt’s home-bred mare six-year-old Lammy Ellisma (Carisma x Beach Ball). They left all the fences up in 41.06 which would be good enough for third place.
Posnett also managed to take fourth place aboard her other mount, the Belgian-bred Maxim Van Overis Z, as the fastest four falter in 32.82. Fifth went to Maisie Adams riding the Dutch-bred Jatendra, while sixth was Harrisson Blair with Heather Blair’s Ballypatrick-bred BP Eur A Star (Elvis Ter Putte x BP First Editions).
1.10m final
Be Good lived up to her name and delivered the win in the 1.10m Grand Final for rider Fionnghuala Benson and owner Noel Benson.
The pair broke the finish beams in a time of 32.22 to finish just over two seconds ahead of runner-up Suzanne Posnett riding her own Dutch-bred Karmijn in 34.23.
Amateur rider Caroline Gaston and her own six-year-old mare Miss Roman Kora (Koro D’Or x Romanov), bred by Pauric Goonan, took third place in 35.21.
Kate Bracken’s Kovali K (Candillo Z x Guidam), bred by Niall and John Mullins and ridden by Steven Holland, finished fourth as the fastest four-falter.
Fifth went to Sheikh Samir Mirdad and his own Mirdads Mekkkah while sixth was Feaha Moore and Peter Connolly’s Ogue Furist Al (Ars Vivendi x Aldalto), bred by Anne Murphy.
