SATURDAY’S feature, the 1.30m Mini Grand Prix, went to Aoife Owens riding her own Omard Connery.
By O.B.O.S. Quality 004 out of Omard Charlies Dolly, by HHS BR Charlton, the nine-year-old gelding was bred by Brian O’Reilly and has been ridden and produced by Owens since he was four years old.
The duo, who went mid-way through the 43-strong two-phase competition, set a time to beat of 30.16 in the second phase, a lead they held on to, despite challenges from the remaining 20 combinations.
It was tight at the top, with less than a second separating the top-four. Jonathan Smyth came closest aboard David Robinson’s Premier Domino (Premier Sport x Cruising), bred by Dominic Rice. They stopped the clock at 30.46 to secure the runner-up spot.
Third place went to Suzanne Posnett riding her mother Pamela’s Belgian-bred Maxim Van Overis Z (Machno Carwyn x Lord Z). They broke the beams in 30.90.
Gerard Clarke and Lady Forbes’ eight-year-old French-bred stallion Feridann de Kergane took fourth, they crossed the finish line in 30.92.
The David Conlon-owned and bred Tullyneagh (Beach Ball x Clover Hill) was ridden into fifth by young rider Alfie Adair.
Another young rider, Annie Gibson and the Dutch-bred Hollywood KWPN completed the line-up in sixth.
