CAPTAIN Candy Man, ridden by children on horses/junior rider Lily P Slattery, won the Aztec Logistics 1.20m two-phase class in Duffy’s last Saturday.
Owned by Gabriel Slattery Snr, the eight-year-old gelding is by Sligo Candy Boy, out of Captain’s Lady by Captain Clover. The duo has produced consistent top-five finishes in 1.10m and 1.20m finals all summer, and this outing was no exception. They stopped the clock in the second round at 22.81, well ahead of all the other combinations to take the top-spot.
Denise Hopkins and John Carey’s MD Sandyhill Princess Mia, who finished fourth in the Grand Prix later that day, took the runner-up spot in 26.31.
Denis Noone’s home-bred eight-year-old Corgary Goodluck (Goodluck VDL x Captain Clove) was ridden into third by Mark Duffy in 26.83.
Glenn McCullough rode his own mare, Heritage Serena (O.B.O.S. Quality x Diamond Serpent) into fourth place, breaking the finish beams in 27.38.
Stephanie Reid’s five-year-old Bally J Pete (Black Hero x Arakan), bred by Dylan Hughes McGrath, was guided into fifth place in 28.37 by Orla Dixon.
Damien Griffin and his own five-year-old mare Kinmar Lissyegan Hero (Ganesh Hero Z x Kheros Van’t Hoogeinde), bred by Gerry Marron and Luc Henry, completed the line-up in sixth place in 29.46.
