GREG Broderick and MHS Going Global burst onto the international scene in May 2015 when they were the star performers in the Irish team that jumped in the Furusiyya FEI Nations Cup in Lummen Belgium.
While the team finished eighth on a team total of 33 faults, Broderick and the Irish Sport Horse gelding produced first round four faults and a second round clear on their senior Nations Cup debut.
On their next Nations Cup outing at La Baule, the combination again jumped 4/0 but it was at St Gallen in 2015 that the homegrown Irish pair pulled out their first double clear on Nations Cup duty.
They went on to jump a double clear round in the five-star Grand Prix at the Swiss show, incurring just one time fault in the second round.
Their next foray was on the Global Champions Tour at Estoril where the pair finished third on their debut, having jumped three clear rounds in succession.
On home soil at Dublin last August Broderick and MHS Going Global made their dreams a reality by jumping double clear round to win the Aga Khan trophy for Ireland in the Nations Cup as the horse’s breeder, the late Ita Brennan of Mill House Stud, watched on.
A quiet winter season saw Broderick undergo keyhole surgery on his groin, an operation to tackle a niggling pain the Tipperary rider had endured for some time.
He and MHS Going Global were due to line out at the opening Nations Cup for Ireland in Lummen but a minor ailment for the Irish Sport Horse gelding saw Splaine replace them with Cameron Hanley and Cas 2.
As it happened, none of the Irish riders jumped at Lummen when the competition was cancelled due to torrential rain and flooding.
MHS Going Global returned to action in Balmoral a short time later and finished third in the two-star Grand Prix at Balmoral with a steady double clear.
Last Friday, Broderick and the Quidam Junior gelding jumped another double clear round in the 2016 renewal of the Furusiyya FEI Nations Cup to help win the competition for Ireland and they followed up with a double clear in the five-star Grand Prix on Sunday.
