MADAM,
I would like to wish Isabel Hurley, who has retired as editor of Irish Horse World, every success and happiness in her new venture into veterinary medicine. It is a brave move by a brave lady and I know she will be every bit as successful as she was in her journalism career.
As a contributor to The Irish Field, I have always found Isabel full of the qualities that any organisation would be proud of. Her style as a writer was compelling, as was her relationship with the fast-moving horse industry. She had extraordinary dedication to The Irish Field in what is a very demanding role.
It always astounded me even when I was filing copy late at night or on a Saturday or Sunday there was always a response within the hour acknowledging my contribution and enquiring about myself and my family. It appeared that Isabel was on duty 24/7!
I really admire anybody who follows their dream especially in changing their career, and Isabel’s decision to change is at the very top of that scale.
No doubt her work ethic and compelling personality will shine again in her new career, and perhaps we will see her journalist skills put to good use in maybe a publication in the future.
To Isabel every good wishes and thanks you for your courtesy and understanding and amending the odd article in such a pleasant manner!
In Judith Faherty, who has worked closely with Isabel over the years, The Irish Field has found an able deputy to take over the mantle. I wish her well.
Yours etc,
Noel Mullins
