Dates for the 2024 Clifden Show are confirmed

AFTER weeks of uncertainty, the Connemara Pony Breeders’ Society confirmed that the annual show will take place at it’s usual home of the Clifden Showgrounds from August 20th to 23rd.

A statement from the CPBS on Friday said: “We need plenty of sponsorships and volunteers to make the event a success. Preparations are in full swing, and we appreciate the volunteers who have already started the ball rolling. If you would like to sponsor the show, please email showsecretary@cpbs.ie or call +353877146576.”

The statement said the schedule will be released soon, with the same classes as last year and some new demonstrations. The CPBS office staff will not be involved in running the show and the statement confirmed a show secretary has been hired with all queries to be directed to the above contact.

Entries for the show open online on June 27th and close on July 7th. It added the current passport turnaround time is three to four weeks.

ISPCA appeal for homes

THE ISPCA is appealing for urgent foster homes for 24 rescued ponies, donkeys, and horses which are currently looking for their forever homes. The ISPCA’s national head of animal welfare, Denise McCausland, said: “We have several equines that are ready to go to new homes now and we are appealing for suitable foster homes, where they can continue their ongoing rehabilitation.

“We have many more equines undergoing intensive veterinary treatment, so they will need to remain in our care for some time yet, but we urgently need to make room to help more injured, emaciated and cruelly treated equines, that need to be rescued and admitted by our Animal Welfare Inspectors”.

A donation can provide life-saving care to help vulnerable animals. To make a donation, visit https://ispca.ie/donations/.
