SWITZERLAND’s jumping superstar Martin Fuchs has returned to the world number one slot, replacing replacing five time Swedish Olympian Peder Fredricson who has held the spot since October 2021.

The 29-year-old Swiss added the World Cup title to his CV in April, adding it to the team gold and individual silver he won at last year’s European championships, and the individual gold at the 2019 Europeans.

“To be number one is very special and a big success for me, because it reflects the performance of a whole year and not just one tournament,” Fuchs said. “It’s a fantastic feeling and a great satisfaction for the whole team around me.”

Peder Fredricson, is now in third place with 2950 points while fellow countryman Henrik von Eckerman moved from third to second on 2964 points. Ben Maher remains in fourth place, while Co Down’s Conor Swail holds on to his fifth place ranking and best of nine Irish in the world’s top 50.

Denis Lynch has risen 10 places to 13th thanks to an excellent run of recent form, which included winning the five-star Rolex Grand Prix in Rome. Darragh Kenny is also in the top 20, moving down three places to 19th, while Shane Sweetnam has moved up four places to 24th.

The remaining top ranked Irish show jumpers are Jordan Coyle (32nd), Mark McAuley (36th), Paul O’Shea (40th), Mikey Pender (42nd), Daniel Coyle (44th) and Bertram Allen (49th).

Mikey Pender has moved up one place to second in the Under 25 World Rankings, behind Britain’s Harry Charles.

Eventing

In the eventing rankings, Britain’s Oliver Townend hold his world number one spot, ahead of Germany’s Michael Jung, however, there is plenty of movement in the top 10. Ros Canter has jumped 12 places to third after her runner-up finish at Badminton, taking over from Tom McEwen who has dropped one place to fourth. Badminton winner Laura Collett is up seven places to seventh.

Ireland’s Austin O’Connor has leapt 68 places from 111th straight into the top 50 in 43rd place after his top-10 finish at the Gloucestershire event. He leads three Irish in the top 50 – Susie Berry is up to 47th ahead of Padraig McCarthy who is ranked 48th.
