HORSE Sport Ireland (HSI) has extended its congratulations to Niall Blaney upon his re-election to Seanad Éireann.
Fianna Fáil Senator Blaney, who was nominated by both Horse Sport Ireland and ICOS for the 2025 Seanad election, served on the Seanad’s Agricultural Panel in 2020 and was successfully re-elected last weekend.
Along with Fine Gael Councillor Tim Durkan (Kildare), Donegal Senator Blaney was one of two nominations put forward to the Seanad by HSI, and secured his seat in the hotly contested election, which saw 29 candidates contest for 11 seats on the Agricultural Panel.
Previously, Senator Blaney held the position of co-chair of the British/Irish Parliamentary Assembly from 2007 until 2011.
Senator Blaney said: “I would like to extend my sincerest thanks to Horse Sport Ireland for my nomination to the Seanad, and I’m delighted to have been re-elected to the Agricultural Panel.
“The importance of equine industry in Ireland cannot be understated and I’m very much looking forward to working with the team at Horse Sport Ireland over the coming years.”
Horse Sport Ireland CEO, Denis Duggan, said: “We too look forward to working with Senator Blaney for the furtherance of the sport horse sector over the years ahead, and we wish him well over the coming Seanad Eireann term.”
