HUNDREDS of mourners turned up in Summerhill on Wednesday afternoon to say a final farewell to Captain Con Power, who died after a long illness last Sunday at the age of 71.

Among the mourners and joining Con’s son Robert in carrying Con’s coffin to his final resting place were his teammates from the famous Aga Khan victories of the 1970s, James Kernan and Eddie Macken, the latter of whom travelled from his home in America to bid farewell to his friend.

Con’s daughter, five-star event rider Elizabeth, was joined on the alter for the prayers of the faithful by Bertram Allen, who began his career under the tutelage of Con and his wife Margaret, crediting them with giving him the perfect start to go on to big success.

At the graveside, Robert spoke fondly of his father, who was a most popular and loved figure, before he was laid to rest. May he rest in peace.
