Nations Cup
HORSE Sport Ireland announced the four venues that the senior Irish show jumping team will compete at during the 2019 Longines FEI Jumping Nations Cup season. Rodrigo Pessoa’s Irish team, sponsored by Devenish and The Underwriting Exchange, will begin their Europe Division 1 campaign at La Baule, France, on May 19th. The Irish team’s second points-scoring opportunity is Sopot, Poland, on June 16th, followed by Hickstead on July 28th and the Aga Khan Trophy at Dublin Horse Show on August 9th.
The 2019 Longines FEI Nations Cup Final returns to Barcelona in October and offers the last Olympic qualification hope for teams, including Ireland, who have not yet qualified for Tokyo 2020.
Breen wins in Abu Dhabi
TIPPERARY’s Shane Breen won the opening 1.45m Grand Prix qualifier at the four-star Al Shira’aa International Horse Show in Abu Dhabi on Wednesday. Riding Team Z7’s 13-year-old stallion Can Ya Makan (Canturo x Fara), he was the fastest of 12 combinations in the jump-off to take victory ahead of Sweden’s Henrick von Eckermann and Que Bueno de Hus Z.
Lancelot Awards
VOTING closes on Wednesday, January 30th at noon for online nominations in the AIRC’s 14th annual Lancelot Awards.
AIRC chairman Tony Ennis said: “We received a fantastic response to our awards with over 50 nominations received from around the country. I wish all of our nominees the best of luck at next months awards ceremony.”
The results will be announced after the Association’s Annual General Meeting on Saturday, February 9th at the County Arms Hotel in Birr, Co. Offaly.
This year’s nominees include: Club of the Year Award: Corrib Riding Club; Killossery Riding Club; Mo Chara Riding Club. Club Secretary of the Year Award: Aoife Farrelly (Mo Chara Riding Club); Karen Kelly (Cheval Riding Club); Lucy Kelly (Tinahely Riding Club); Club Member of the Year Award: Paul Hughes (Tonabrockey Riding Club); Kate O’Neill (Kilotteran Riding Club); Grace Sheridan (Castle Leslie Riding Club). Person of the Year Award: Eileen Doran (Kilrainy Riding Club); Michelle McCormack (Warrington Riding Club) and Ruth Walsh (Three Counties Riding Club).
