IRISH para dressage rider Katie Reilly (17) is the new owner of the mutliple Paralympic medal-winning mare Keystone Dawn Chorus.
The 13-year-old mare was partnered by British Paralympian Natasha Baker to the Grade III individual and Freestyle bronze medals at this summer’s Paris Paralympic Games.
The pair were part of the gold medal-winning British team at the Tokyo Games four years ago, where they also won two silver medals, as well as a silver and bronze at the 2022 World Championships.
Katie, who is from Kildare, but is based at Allostock Hall Equestrian in Cheshire for the last number of years, made her senior championships debut for Ireland at the 2023 European Championships. Commenting on the new partnership, Reilly said it was “unbelievably hard to keep the secret”.
“I’m so proud to say that we are the new owners of multi Paralympic medallist Keystone Dawn Chorus (aka the amazing Lottie). Natasha, I am so grateful and thankful for you trusting me with your very precious girl. I hope I can make you all proud of us both.
“To have Lottie joining our team is hugely exciting and just a really amazing privilege to not only own, but to ride this very precious girl. We will take our time, build our partnership together and see what the next few years bring us,” Katie said in a post on social media.
Baker, a nine-time Paralympic medallist and back-to back Paralympic champion in London and Rio, said the mare has “the kindest heart and I am for ever grateful for her giving me absolutely everything in the past five years. She is absolutely one in a trillion and I couldn’t be happier to support Lottie in her new partnership that holds so much promise and potential.”
