THE Goresbridge Supreme Sale of Show Jumpers, due to take place in November, has been cancelled for 2017, Goresbridge auctioneer Martin Donohoe confirmed this week.

The sale, which is run alongside the Go For Gold eventing sale, did not attract the high-profile entries that it had for the past two years.

“The lack of the type of entries we need this year means the sale is not going ahead. We had not enough of what we thought were high profile,” Donohoe told The Irish Field.

He hopes, however, that Goresbridge will get back on track with the supreme sale next year. “Goresbridge will be running it next year, we will definitely will revisit it in some shape or form next year. We have put in a lot of hard work into it over the last few years. It was very successful. There were a couple of very good sales so it would be a pity to scrap it completely,” he added.

Some selections for the sale had already taken place and Donohoe said some of the three-year-olds will go into the October sport horse performance sale.

The first running of the Supreme Sale of Show Jumper was in 2015 when the record-breaking sale of the Irish Sport Horse gelding Dougie Douglas made headlines around the world after being sold to American show jumper Katie Dinan for €1.4 million.

The 2016 renewal didn’t reach such heights but still saw high-profile entries such as the six-year-old world young horse champion Killossery Kaiden sell for €270,000 to America’s Adrienne Dixon, and Carl and Cameron Hanley’s sale-topper Nickoletta E make €460,000.

Meanwhile, it is all systems go for the Goresbridge Go For Gold eventing sale with videos of the selected three-year-olds available to the public next week.

“We are very happy, we have a very nice bunch of horses and they will all be online next week,” Donohoe said. Last year’s sale-topper, Cornascriebe Glenpatrick, made almost double the 2015 top price when sold for €160,000.
