CORK native Tony Hurley’s second three-year term as chairman of Showjumping Ireland will come to an end next Tuesday when the SJI executive committee meet to elect his successor.
One of the front-runners would appear to be Ray Buchannan from the Ulster region. He served as vice-chairman of the Association for the past two years and is many people’s favourite to take up the role as chairman this week.
Mayo’s Charles Hanley, who previously served as chairman of the Association and last year served as Connaught region chairman, is another possible contender. He told The Irish Field: “I have been asked by a number of people if I would consider going forward again but I am undecided at the moment. I served as chairman in the past and I have said I would like to do so again in the future but I haven’t made my mind up yet if now is the right time or not.”
One possible candidate who had been mentioned from the Leinster region is Sally Ann Tobin, however she has ruled herself out. “Not this year, it is something I would certainly be interested in in the future but just not at the moment,” she said.
