AIDAN O’Brien was in double form at Navan on Saturday with opening race winner Statuette (93+) the most impressive both visually and on the clock for a debutante while promising much more to come.

The daughter of Justify settled perfectly for Ryan Moore in the formative stages of the race before stretching well clear of Olivia Maralda (88) - who impressed on her debut behind Zarinsk at the Curragh - in the closing stages.

The time-figure was slower than the two five-furlong races when adjusted for distance, while Wodao (95+) also proved faster through the closing stages as he clocked 29.31secs for my sectional compared to Statuette’s 29.55secs.

Superior

However, based on the filly’s three-length winning margin, which was pretty much achieved in the final 150 yards, I will allow my eyes to overrule the clock and suggest the filly is vastly superior to Donnacha O’Brien’s colt.

Yashin (97) won a second successive handicap and impressed on the clock in the premier handicap.

Shane Foley took full advantage of first run on runner-up Vina Sena (96) who can be counted a shade unfortunate as he met with interference when gathering full stride.

The winner posted a closing sectional of 29.84secs which was slower than Voice Of Angels (86) and Grecian Slipper (90) who clocked 29.53secs and 29.43secs respectively.

However, in terms of an overall time-figure, Grecian Slipper was 10 lengths inferior to Jessica Harrington’s gelding.

Newfoundland (80+) completed the Ballydoyle double, albeit in the slowest time of the day on the round track. So, while respecting the winner, I would have the race as questionable form moving forwards.
