THE margins were fine in the Group 1 Cazoo Oaks as a short-head separated Tuesday and Emily Upjohn who I would label as exceptional middle-distance fillies, who are vastly superior to their peers.

The race was very much about the start and the finish with very little of note happening in between.

A lot has been made of Emily Upjohn (113+) stumbling when exiting the stalls, although I would also add Tuesday (113+) as being awkward and slowly away to any race notes.

As the field entered the final mile, the principal pair were side-by-side with Ryan Moore holding the rail which I would say was of greater influence on the finish than the events leaving the stalls.

Frankie Dettori undoubtedly covered more ground to reach a challenging position and was also intimidated Kawida and then the fading Moon De Vega before posting the faster closing sectional of the pair, covering the final three furlongs in 32.53secs.

Route

Tuesday stopped the clock at 32.78secs as Ryan Moore cut the corner, which suggests John & Thady Gosden’s filly would have prevailed if afforded the same route.

However, Moore was quick to say post-race his filly was babyish when hitting the front and there was another gear if required.

The next best finishing effort in the race was posted by Nashwa (109) whose 33.43secs was 0.65secs (or roughly three lengths) slower than the winner and, along with Concert Hall (108) 33.45secs, they were clear of the remainder.
