THERE has always been a close relationship between Fairyhouse racecourse and Tattersalls Ireland since the sales company moved to its Co Meath location in the late 1980s.

This was brought home again last weekend when the track’s manager, Peter Roe, gave the show organisers access to the racecourse’s reservoir. Roughly 18,000 gallons of water was used in Ring 1 in the showing field alone and most of that around the outside track which was cleverly marked off at the corners with white racecourse-type rails with red and white flags.

Ironically of course, there was heavy rain when proceedings got under way on Saturday morning, later when the small hunters were being judged and again on Sunday afternoon.

Eugene O’Neill and his team had the extensive grounds in excellent order and the viewing bank overlooking the working hunter ring proved to be a popular spot.

It was rather sad though looking at all the fences from the international event. Hopefully, they will be incorporated into the tracks at the Eventing Ireland one-day on Sunday, August 21st.
