Killossery Lodge Stud interschools

THE third leg of the Jumpinaction.net Secondary Schools Jumping League got under way on a very windy autumn last Sunday morning at Killossery Lodge Stud, Rolestown having been rescheduled due to half-term.

The novice individual class ran first and first in was Chloe Russell with BowBow who set a good target of 42.61 seconds but it was the Colaiste de Lacy representative Abi Lawler, on her new ride Athena, who crossed the finish line in 41.54 to take home the winning rug leaving Chloe in second place.

Third place went to the Ursuline Thurles representative Emelia Cinar and Maynooth Community School’s Kate Teahan took the fourth spot. Lucy O’Connell rode Skippy into fifth for Loreto St Stephen’s Green and completing the line-up was Lily O’Sullivan from Scoil Dara.

The Jumpinaction.net Secondary School team competition saw 14 teams jumping for the prizes. St Andrew’s College and Mount Sackville green team made it through to the jump-off. Fiala Ni Mhurchu and Mary Kate Carroll set a good target, both jumping clear in a combined time of 69.16.

Faye McEntaggart, although recording a fast time, picked up four faults, whereas team-mate Mary-Kate Carroll jumped clear which left them in second place.

The Institute of Education finished third with O’Carolan College in fourth and Mount Sackville red team took fifth while Belvedere filled sixth spot.

In the 90/95cm Championship, Ruari O’Neill (Dora) flew over the line in 32.92 and closest in 36.78 was Yasmin Murray with Atlantic Coltaire. Local trainer Clare O’Connell had told son Dara O’Sullivan from Belvedere how to get speedy to finish third.

Siobhan Flynn was in the line-up again this week with Esano taking fourth while Saoirse Kiernan from Ashbourne Community School, with 37.82, slotted into fifth. The last place went to Mountsackville student Sophie Quinn.

Ideal for starters

The Breakaway Campers Primary Schools’ novice individuals is perfect for those starting off in the interschools. There were 10 competitors who divided the medals with representatives from a wide variety of schools.

St Mary’s Garristown had Caoimhe Ennis riding Briscoe and Grace Robertson riding Sugar. Scoil Olibheir Naofa had three representatives in the line-up, Sadie Connolly riding Farmleigh Boy, Lily Dunne with Sunshine Sheltie and Cara O’Connor riding My Perfect Puzzle. Lismullen school was represented by Jane Reynolds riding Miss Ruby while twin sister Rose Reynolds rode Sparky. St Cremins National School representatives were Ruby Brennan and Summerdale Klara and Isla Brennan (Tucker) while Corduff National School was represented by Sadhbh on Willow.

The Breakaway Campers Open individual had 37 starters, all hoping for the holiday in the camper van prize.

The winner was Chloe Dunne riding Wingfield into the Blue while Joseph Baker, coming from the family that bred the great Arkle, showed speed to finish second in the class with I.C.Spots. St Gerard’s representative Isabelle Galligan rode Hero into third while previous winner Alice Hartford had to settle for fourth place on this occasion. Eabha Dolan finished fifth and Robyn Lynch was sixth.

The Breakaway Campers Primary team competition had three teams through to the jump-off. First to go for St Mary’s Ashbourne, Regan Woods rode Sugar to finish clear along with team mate Lucy Flynn who also posted a clear on Falcon, good enough for eventual second place.

Headfort School sent the Brennan sisters in to jump and both Isla and Ruby jumped clear in a combined time of 69.31, which was good enough to take home the winning rugs.

St Andrew’s Curragha’s Kate Broderick and Freddie Greene had an unfortunate pole down which left them in third place. Knockcommon/Kilmessan, Dunboyne finished fourth and Lismullen/St Mary’s finished fifth and Kilcloon were sixth.
