FOLLOWING on from a well-attended day of Interschools classes, organised by Newbridge College at Coilog Equestrian, it now stands very close at the top of the TRI Equestrian teams league and the EII Novice tams league with it all to play for as the final looms at the beginning of April.

A comprehensive win in the TRI Equestrian open team competition for the host school meant that it was awarded the all important 10 points and moves Newbridge to third in the league table. Newbridge was represented by Empress Nala (Mia Brown), Golden Copper (Bonnie O’Neill), Kilmovee Bridal Excess (Louise Maguire) and Prince (Eva O’Neill).

East Glendalough-Athenian Treasure (Sarah Curry), Shergar Rose (Anna Morrissey), Jaxtexi (Skyla Nally), Sunny Girl (Rosie Coad) took the runner-up points ahead of Colaiste Bhride Carnew-Lunasa Cruise (Sophie Wilson), Corky Rocks (Chloe Walsh), Galtee Shadow (Johnnie Sheppard), Drummin Pretty Lady (Hannah O’Neill) in third. The remaining places on the day went to Gorey Community School, Presentation Kilkenny and a second team from Newbridge.

In the EII Novice Teams event, the host school is now in a tie for top of the league table with the team from St Peter’s College, Dunboyne, who were third on the day.

The winners of the EII Novice teams’ event were Loreto Wexford which moves them into third place in the league standings. Wexford was represented by WNDA Toby (Aoife Griffith), Starlight Empress (Amy Griffith), Joy Limit (Ashley Durack), Shakespeare and Romeo Montag (Cora Finn). In second were Newbridge College team members Freddie (Claire Nestor), Hello Gooch (Isabelle Walsh), Lisrua Heide (Ellen O’Neill) and Satire Imperial Commander (Mai Monahan) and Inchydoney (Lilly Knapp), Red Cap Mac (Maria Connolly), Slone Twinkle Star (Emily Michael), Ardmount Nazca (Collen Klinowska) represented Dunboyne. The remaining league points went to Loreto Kilkenny, St Gerard’s Bray and Cross and Passion, Kilcullen.

Win for Morrissey

First place in the TRI Open Individual League event went to East Glendalough’s Shergar Rose (Anna Morrissey) from runner-up Emily O’Neill from Mercy Secondary School Kilbeggan riding Zothen’s Nobel. Presentation Kilkenny’s Lexi Brennan and Misty (Lexi Brennan) were third ahead of Shana Furlong, Cian Byrne and Aisling Dwan.

The HSI premier 1.10m class was a whitewash for riders from Colaiste Bhride Carnew, claiming the first four places. Carnew’s Cian Byrne was first and second on Boularee (Cian Byrne) and Hunters Lodge Puissance (Cian Byrne), Johnnie Sheppard and Galtee Shadow was third and Corky Rocks (Chloe Walsh) was fourth. A good attempt by Wesley College’s LGS Safari (Emily Crawford) gave them fifth place ahead of St Columba’s College rider Olean Cowan and RCA Royal Mist in sixth.

The Equieire EII novice 90cm event saw Newbridge College riders take first and second places. Lisrua Heide (Ellen O’Neill) was first ahead of Freddie (Claire Nestor) in second third place went to Oisin Phelan riding Pepper Belle for Colaiste Lorcain, Kilpatrick Cascade (Karolina Keirns) from Newbridge was fourth with St Marys Naas’s Major Profile (Aimee Byrne) Borris Vocational School’s Montezuma (Dearbhla Sheehan) in fifth and sixth.

The EII Primary league individual event was won by Daniel Wall riding Rince for Kilkea NS. Ryan O’Neill on Jedi Skywalker representing Tyrrellspass was second and Charlotte Butler on Billy Two Shoes from St Anne’s Ardclough was third. Holly Stephenson, Lauren O’Sullivan and Gavin O’Reilly made up the rest of the line-up to gain league points.

The fun 80cm novice individual was claimed by Cross and Passion Kilcullen rider Emily Flynn riding Windstorm Allihies. St Gerard’s Bray-Apache (Ali Condren) was second ahead of Aine Hayes riding Ginger for Cross and Passion Kilcullen.

Combined team victors

The combined team from Kildare ETNS & St Patrick NS-Daisy (Orla Cleary), Moelyparc Gold Gift (Jamie Monahan), Bobbilious (Moritz Geoghegan) and Waterglades Admiral Brown (Emily Servis) came first in the primary team’s event. Screen NS Lady (Shannon Griffith), Molly (Mary Kate Kelly), Lady (Caitlin Griffith), were second ahead of the Blessington NS team of Conflicting Colours (Sasha Perrin), Ballinaskeha Show Girl (Julie Moran), Indigo (Sophie Canning) and Ivy League (Eabha Lewis). Finally, the primary 50cm class went to St Brigid’s NS Kildare Town’s Evie Holohan riding Brynrodyn Robbie.

The action moves this weekend to Wexford Equestrian Centre where East Glendalough School host the event.
