MULLINGAR Equestrian hosted the penultimate TRI Equestrian Interschools event last Sunday. There was a packed schedule running in both arenas and a good day’s sport was had by all.
The TRI Equestrian open teams’ event was won by Mercy Ballymahon. The team members were Aboy Duggie and Calum Duignan, Tomb Star ridden by Neassa Donoghue, Lockside Celtic Queen and Emily Hall and Wyndham Miss Ellie ridden by Ella Duignan. Loreto Wexford took the runner-up slot. Team members were Bells Nugget ridden by Isabell Walsh, Wex Gal and Amy Griffith, A Little Bit of Twinkle and Hannah Rose Roche and Congorah partnered by Kate Jones. Gorey Community School’s Alexandra Cassidy, Holly Spencer, Tabatha McGee and Amber Farrell riding Courtwood Prince, Kyle Lad, Epona and Daisy, Daisy were third, with Moate Community School’s Diana and Ally Duffy, Paddy and Aine Broderick, Fireball ridden by Josh Duffy and Happy and Aine Shortall in fourth.
The TRI Equestrian open individual league class was won by Brooke Kenny from King’s Hospital riding Ravensdale’s Ridge, with Calum Duignan on April Shadow from Ballymahon in second and Lucy O’Rourke and Killglass Jimmy from Killina Presentation in third. Points were also gained by Ava Kane and Ace from Cnoc Mhuire Granard and St Attracta’s Community School pupil, Andrew Fearon riding Jarieno.
In the TRI Equestrian premier 110 class, four combinations claimed qualifying places on this, the last chance to qualify before the final taking place this weekend. They were Mercy Ballymahon’s Calum Duignan and Ah Boy Duggie, the pony that used to be campaigned by his sister Katie, St Mary’s Naas rider Aimee Byrne and Major Profile, Ellie Condron and Carnhill Rascal from Portumna and Loreto Abbey Dalkey’s Jessica Kinsella riding CES Sonny James.

The Hopoti novice teams’ event was won by Sacred Heart Westport. The team members Kate O’Brien, Kate Staunton, Siofra Burke and Lucy Watson were delighted with their win. They rode Kiltulla Lady, Nancy Mulligan, Sillogue Coco and Charlie D. St Gerard’s Bray - Chesterfield Erin Curtis and Ali Condren, Harvey Ventura ridden by Lilly Maloney, Cluainin Johnson Grey partnered by Saoirse De Rasi and Coosan Hannah and Charlotte Dodd - were runners-up, with St Oliver’s Post Primary Oldcastle - Olympic Dream and Elllie O’Reilly, McCarrick Laithe ridden by Maisie Govern, Yogi with Aoibhinn Donohue and Bella and Lucy Reilly in third. Scoil Mhuire Trim were fourth and sixth, while Moate Community School was fifth.
Qualifying spots in the Equieire novice 90cm class were gained by Sadie Orton and Gowerless Boy from Wesley, Killag’s Royal Ace and Lily Sullivan from Scoil Dara Kilcock, Loreto College, Mullingar’s Sasha Martin and WB, Lana Carson on Ballymorris Storm from Eureka Kells and Nidge and Lily Maloney from St Gerard’s. Isabella Goode and Paddy from Athlone Community School won the Hopoti novice 80cm class and Curraghmore Sparrow and Shannon Griffith from Screen NS Wexford was again victorious in the 75cm primary league class. There were also other classes held, catering for riders wanting to jump from 40cm to 70cm.
The final is on this weekend in Coilog Equestrian, where the Byrne family and Equestrian Interschools Ireland are the hosts. The leagues will be decided by placings gained in the Championship classes being held on the day.
