THE East Galway Hunt, held a ‘next generation’ puppy show recently at their kennels. Based there since 2014, courtesy of joint-master Joe Kavanagh, the set-up is a wonderful example to all hunting people about hound husbandry and presentation and the hunt feel blessed to have such a facility.
A large crowd gathered, and a great evening’s entertainment was had as joint-master Alan Briscoe laid on refreshments for everyone with a complimentary bar.
Music was provided by hunt supporter and landowner Pat Hardiman, while the committee chair Dermot Duffy, and ably assisted by Donal Fahy provided a fantastic barbecue, along with sweet treats baked by the members.
Beautiful presentations
Hounds were judged by former Kildare huntsman Peter Cahill and Mary Dooley MFH, show champion hound and bitch were Vintage and Vixen. Beautiful presentations of the traditional silver spoon, engraved with the EGH logo, were presented to puppy walkers, along with a memorial trophy in honour of the late Tom Fahy, a former EGH chair for over 30 years.
This trophy was presented by his wife Mary to Mike Lyons, on behalf of puppy walker Robbie Head.
With a successful show completed and great support, the future is indeed bright for the East Galway Hunt!
