BRIAN Duff and his team at Broadmeadow hosted the latest leg of the TRI Equestrian league on Sunday and there was great excitement for the team from St Joseph’s Secondary School, Rochfordbridge when they claimed their first win in the TRI equestrian open teams class.
Nicole Brenner riding Sadie, Elen Pearson on Melissa’s Boy, Hannah Madden riding Hillcrest Metallica and Leon Van Cauwenberge on Rocky represented Rochfordbridge. The Gorey Communiy School team of Naomi Doyle on Pairc Na Ruarc, Jessica Murphy on Ashwood Reggie, Lauren Spencer on Sparrow and Angelica McGee on Abby Brook Aurore took the runner-up slot ahead of the three-member team from East Glendalough. Robert Cherry riding Firebolt, Anna Morrissey on Shergar Rose and Connor Doyle on Rusheenduff Patrick represented East Glendalough. The remaining league points went to Dominican College Wicklow, Wesley College and Scoil Mhuire Trim.
The EII novice teams class produced a win for Holy Child Killiney’s Chloe Walsh on Lottie Amelia Durkan riding Willow and Grace Dixon on Starlight Express, ahead of St Mary’s Naas represented by Ruby Barker on Gold Thorn Hazelnut, Alexandra Butler on Carrig Dun and Aimee Byrne on Major Profile. The St Gerard’s Bray team of Sloane Rangitaawa riding Corrohoe Oscar, Arabella Whelahan on Blackhill Border Fox, Darby Condren and Chesterfield Erin and Ariana Durkan riding Ms Arielle. Loreto Secondary school, Bray and Scoil Mhuire Trim claimed the other league points.
Jessica Murphy riding Ashwood Reggie was victorious in both the TRI Equestrian open teams’ class and the HSI 110cm qualifier class. Conor Doyle on Rusheenduff Patrick from East Glendalough was the runner-up in the TRI open individual class ahead of Jamie Hargadon riding Bruno representing Newbridge College.
The remaining TRI Equestrian individual league points went to Maeve Long and Emily Brooks, both from Scoil Mhuire Trim. The remaining Horse Sport Ireland 110cm qualifying slots went to Naomi Doyle on Parc na Ruarc for Gorey Community School, Jamie Hargaden on Bruno for Newbridge College and Jessica Murphy on her second horse, Darcy.
Victory for Browne
The Equieire EII Novice 90cm qualifier went the way of Mia Browne on Basil Brush for Newbridge College ahead of Jessica Kinsella on Rocket Celt, Ariana Durkan on Tagunnan Lad, Chloe Walsh riding George, Sophie Tobin on Prince and finally, Darby Condren riding Chesterfield Erin.
The final class on offer was the fun novice 80cm class and Coolodge Maeve, ridden by Holly Gee, performed superbly to claim victory ahead of Jessica Corcoran riding Swift and Alice Curley on LA Dream Machine.
The interschools action moves this weekend to Coilog Equestrian, Kilmeague, Co Kildare where Newbridge College play host and are offering a full range of classes including Primary School level.
