A LOVELY sunny morning greeted all the competitors who arrived bright and early for the final of the horse and pony league at Killossery Lodge Stud. Parking proved less of a problem with the addition of the new car park at the North County Dublin venue.

The indoor arena kicked off with the lead rein class which was won by James Goodwin Harney who also won the league. Ada Purcell Logue won the first ridden although it was Cian Greene who picked up the league prize here. The obedient pony title was won by James Glynn with his school master Buddy, although Greene once again took home the league prize in this class.

The cross-poles class yielded plenty of clear rounds with Ruth Duffy and Polo taking home the winner’s rug while Tiernan McGuinness took second place in the league. The 40cm class also had plenty of clear rounds and Jodie Sheridan and Kiera Conlon were the joint-winners in this league. There were plenty of clears in the 50cm and four riders divided the league prizes: Tilly Smyth with Tin Tin, Mia Sullivan with My Little Rocking Horse, Chloe Dempsey with Tommy and Isabella Fitzgerald with Peppar.

The 60cm saw another divide for the league prizes between Maria Watson with Giovanni, Grainne Donnelly with Dale, Charlotte Harten with Trigger, Ailbhe Reilly with Timmy and Alice McCann with Conor. The 70cm league winner was won by Kieran H. Smyth on Whitehills Hector while in second place was Sabrina Bermingham with Bella Donna and third place went to Heidi Smyth with Adajeo.

The 80cm was won by Smyth (Adajeo) who jumped consistently throughout the league. Winner of the 90cm league was Ava Corcoran Lydon and Sonador while winner of the one-metre league was Ruairi O’Neill with Dora.

Working hunters

The working hunter arena was a busy one for Kevin McGuinness with large entries in all classes. Taking the win in the 70cm was Hannah Grace Parker although it was the second-placed Siobhain Flynn with Splash of Colour who took the league prize.

The 80cm working hunter was won by Anna Nangle who also took the league prize in this division. Sarah Cassidy took second place in the league with Woodland Badger. The same pair also took the 90cm league while Jack Martin went home with the winner’s prize in the 1m league.

Showing division

Showing classes started with the 148 show hunter pony where the league winner was Zara Cottin riding Dernahatten Grey Mist. The league winner in the cob class was Becky Grimes with Spot On and Becky also won the heavyweight hunter class.

The lightweight hunter league was won by Jack Martin on Lottie while the small hunter honours went the way of Sonia Menon.
