William (9) a credit to his family

WHILE some people are loath to volunteer, young William Lynskey put in a long, and much appreciated, stint last Sunday as the Western Region of Eventing Ireland held the second leg of this season’s eventing starter series at the Galway Equestrian Centre.

The nine-year-old split his time between helping his father Liam, plus Matt and Hannah Gordon, with the three horses and two ponies they brought down from the Derryronane Stud while he also collected scoresheets and did any other job requested by the series organisers.

“William has his own pony to ride but he actually prefers the breeding side of things,” said Liam who, through Derryronane Stud, is sponsoring the five-year-old league along with Matt Gordon. “He has bred some very nice ponies and he decides himself what stallions to use on his mares.”
