ARQANA Online held its first sale of the year on Tuesday. A total of 100 buyers registered for the occasion in order to bid on the 14 lots catalogued. Following nearly 300 bids, a dozen lots sold for a turnover of €986,000.

A share in the young Aga Khan Studs’ stallion Zarak was first up, and made the top price when selling for €410,000 to Abdullah Saeed Almaddah.

Zarak is the sire of 15 blacktype performers, including the Group 1-placed trio of Times Square, Purplepay and La Parisienne. A Group 1 winner himself, the son of Dubawi is out of the champion Zarkava.

Agent Paul Harley went to €105,000 for a share in the Haras d’Etreham sire Persian King. Winner of the Group 1 Poule d’Essai des Poulains-French 2000 Guineas, the son of Kingman also won the Group 1 Prix d’Ispahan and Group 1 Prix du Moulin de Longchamp before finishing his career with a third place finish in the Group 1 Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe.

The share in Haras de la Hetraie sire Nirvana Du Berlais was sold for €60,000 to Thomas Maudet.

On the horses-in-training side, Joffret Huet, bidding on behalf of Donald McCain, went to €125,000 for Rock Hurley. A winner over hurdles at Fontainebleau last month, the Erwan Grall-trained gelding then won by 14 lengths at Pau.

The Gabriel Leenders-trained Judicieuse Allen sold for €100,000 to Pierre Boulard, Harold Kirk and Willie Mullins. She was runner-up over hurdles at Pau on her debut.
