Four lots made over €1 million at the Arqana Arc Sale at Saint-Cloud on Saturday evening.
They were headed by the three-year-old colt Ramadan who was sold for €1.5 million just hours after winning the Group 2 Daniel Wildenstein at ParisLongchamp.
Trained by Christopher Head for owner-breeder Nurlan Bizakov, Ramadan was bought by Australian agent Vin Cox on behalf of owner-breeder Ben Kwok's Lion Rock Bloodstock. The horse will reportedly continue his career in Hong Kong.
Acting this time on behalf of Paulins Racing, Cox also signed the docket at €1.3 million for the talented Zarir, trained by Francis-Henri Graffard for the Aga Khan. Runner-up in the Prix Ganay, the four-year-old son of Frankel is from the family of Zarkava and Zarak.
“He’ll go to Australia,” said Vin Cox. “He looks to have the potential to be a good stayer. We’re delighted to have been able to get a horse of his quality."
The Henk Grewe-trained Palladium was subject to a lot of interest from buyers and the gavel finally fell at €1.4 milllion in favour of Highflyer Bloodstock for the Deutsches Derby winner. The three-year-old is a son of Gleneagles.
The fourth horse to make seven figures on the evening was Trafalgar Square, who had earlier in the day pushed the Aidan O'Brien-trained Illinois close in the Group 2 Prix Chaudenay.
The three-year-old son of Kendargent was sold for €1.15 million to the Libyan owner Ismil Sh Ghrghar, represented by Miladi Moez.
Willie Mullins and agents Harold Kirk and Pierre Boulard paid €260,000 for recent hurdles race winner Livio, a son of Cokoriko.
Of the 40 lots offered, 25 changed hands for a record average of €415,200.
For the first time, the turnover for the sale passed €10 million.
