Unbeaten Nietsche Has to stud

HARAS de Montaigu have announced that Zarak’s unbeaten hurdler Nietzsche Has will join their enviable roster headlined by No Risk At All.

The Marcel Rolland-trained chesnut won all three of his starts over hurdles at Auteuil, most recently in the Grade 3 Prix Aguado, a race previously won by the likes of Saint Des Saints, Nickname, Robin Des Champs, Denham Red and Dom Alco.

Aliette Forien of Haras de Montaigu said, “His owner Edward James, with his new French racing entity Highbourne Stud, will support the stallion with his best mares, including two excellent fillies acquired at the Derby Sale.”

Death of talented equine scientist

MARIA Edgeworth, a biochemist and former lab technician at Coolmore Stud, died in May, aged 70.

Through her work at Coolmore, she had connections with trainers Dr Vincent O’Brien, Adrian Maxwell, Edward O’Grady, P.P. Hogan and many more. She won named Young Scientist of the Year in 1970 and European Young Scientist of the Year in 1971. Her favourite racehorse was Alleged. Maria is survived by her partner Francis Joseph Golding and brothers Michael and Sean.

HRI seeks financial controller

HORSE Racing Ireland is seeking a chief financial officer following Roger Casey’s decision to leave the organisation after two years in the post. The recruitment process is being handled by Forvis Mazars and the deadline for applications is July 22nd.
