STRETCHED over two days, this week’s annual Osarus Yearling Sale at La Teste in south-west France produced a disappointing set of results, with fewer than 100 of the 156 lots on offer changing hands.

The average and median both fell, while the aggregate failed to reach seven figures.

The sale’s top lot emerged during the second session when Haras de Montaigu’s daughter of Toronado, named Acqua Rosa, sold to John Hammond for €40,000. A half-sister to two winners, and this year’s placed juvenile Sicilian Threat, the filly is out of a daughter of Dylan Thomas who won four times.

The same vendors also consigned the best lot sold at the opening session, realising €34,000 for Arzano, a son of Armor. Mandore International purchased the colt for Kevin Tavares. A half-brother to the 2023 two-year-old winner Zabriskie Point, the grandson of No Nay Never is out of a three-time winning daughter of Zafeen.

Another high-priced filly was a daughter of Victor Ludorum from Haras du Haut Gué. The filly is the third produce of a two-year-old winner by Siyouni, Princesa, and that mare’s first foal is a winner this year at three. JDH Agency signed the purchase docket for this lot at €32,000.

Irish buyers

Among the few overseas purchasers at the sale were Con Marnane and John Bourke from Hyde Park Stud. Both have enjoyed success with purchases at this sale previously.

Bansha House’s Marnane signed for two lots. He paid €22,000 for Haras des Loges’ Notre Secret, a son of Galiway and a half-brother to five winners already. Their dam, a placed daughter of Royal Applause, is a half-sister to dual Group 3 winner Pearl Flute, and to the stakes-winning dam of this year’s Group 3 Musidora Stakes winner Secret Satire.

Also heading to Tipperary is a Goken colt from Haras de la Haie Neuve who sold for €14,000. He is the second foal of the three-time winner Diva Morita, a daughter of Pedro The Great, and her first foal is surely a winner in waiting, the juvenile Telcherboline having placed a number of times this year.

Hyde Park Stud also made two purchases, one privately, and in the ring John Bourke signed for a daughter of Seabhac, also from Haie Neuve, at €21,000.

A half-sister to this year’s twice-placed two-year-old Metro Dubai, the filly is the second offspring of a placed daughter of Wootton Bassett. This is a Ballymacoll Stud female line, the filly’s fourth dam responsible for Group 2 winner Bonny Scot, and grandam of Group 1 classic winner Golan.
