VICTORY for Bucanero Fuerte in the Group 1 Keeneland Phoenix Stakes could not have been better timed, and it credited her dam Frida La Blonde with a second winner at the highest level.

Consequently, there was added interest in the sale of the leading juvenile’s yearling half-sister, and she did not disappoint. There was no space available when it came to the turn of a half-sister by Dubawi to Bucanero Fuerte and the Group 1 Prix de l’Abbaye de Longchamp winner Wooded to have her time in the ring.

Consigned by Haras d’Etreham, it was bloodstock agent Oliver St Lawrence, acting on behalf of a Bahraini owner, who saw off all opposition and have the final say at €2,400,000 for the filly. “She’s a lovely individual,” said St. Lawrence. “I’ve bought her for a Bahraini owner. Her dam has already produced two fantastic performers that have won Group 1s, and we hope she will be just as good on the racetrack. She’ll come back to England and we’ll decide later on where she’ll going into training. We’re very happy.”

Earlier in a smaller session after racing, Blandford Bloodstock’s Richard Brown went to €660,000 to secure a half-brother by Night Of Thunder to three-time group scorer The Juliet Rose and the listed winner Everest Rose, a daughter of Dubawi. From the huge Monceaux draft, the son of Dubai Rose is from the family of the excellent Sea La Rose, winner of the Group 1 Prix de Royallieu. “For me, he was the standout colt of the day,” said Brown. “His dam has already produced some good horses and he comes from a great stud. We’re delighted.”

Also from Monceaux, a daughter of Siyouni was sold for €600,000. It was Ghislain Bozo in Meridian International who signed the docket for the filly out of a Sea The Stars stakes-placed half-sister to the Group 1 Preis von Europa scorer Empoli. Another star in the immediate family is the multiple Group 1 heroine Elle Danzig.

Ghaiyyath

Anthony Stroud struck once more on behalf of Godolphin during the second session, this time for a son of the young Darley sire Ghaiyyath for €600,000. Consigned by Haras des Capucines, the colt is out of a sister to the Group 1 runner-up Earnshaw, and he together with Lockwood are Group 3-winning sons of Emily Bronte, a pattern winner and daughter of Machiavellian. “He’s a lovely colt that we like a lot,” said Stroud. “He’s by Ghaiyyath, a sire that we have high hopes for. The agent had also signed the docket at €425,000 for another daughter of Ghaiyyath.
