THIS year's German Oaks winner Muskoka will race in new colours in Sunday's Prix de l'Opera at ParisLongchamp following her sale at Arqana's Saint-Cloud complex on Saturday evening for €1.3 million.
The three-year-old Sea The Moon filly was purchased by Irish bloodstock agent Michael Donohoe of BBA Ireland. "I’ve bought her for one of my clients who has horses-in-training and breeds horses worldwide. She’ll run in the Prix de l’Opéra tomorrow and we’ll then decide on a plan for her future. You don’t have the opportunity to buy a Group 1 winner every day, so we’re very happy. Her trainer has done an excellent job with her and she has a great pedigree for breeding.”
Another horse in the catalogue, Freville, is due to run in Sunday's Prix Marcel Boussac. The Gleneagles filly was the subject of a private sale for €1 million during the evening which sees ownership now shared between Haras du Cadran and Écurie Mélanie.
Other significant transactions on the evening included Group 3 winner Laulne (three-year-old filly by Starspangledbanner) selling for €750,000 to Nicolas de Watrigant of Mandore International, and the three-year-old Zarakem (by Zarak) sold for €500,000 to Nicolas Bertran de Belanda.
Of the 42 lots offered for sale, 76% were sold for a record average price of €306,594 and a turnover of nearly €10 million.
