NINE broodmares carrying southern hemisphere covers to Too Darn Hot feature in the 122 lots catalogued for the Tattersalls Online December Sale. Bidding opens at 10am on Wednesday, December 11th, with bidding on the first lot scheduled to close from 10am the following day.
The nine mares make up the sale’s headline section, the Southern Hemisphere Session, an innovative collaboration between Tattersalls Online and Inglis Digital. Four hail from Moulton Stud, beginning with Belle Isle (Lot 2), the dam of Cornwallis Stakes winner Abel Handy and Group 3 sprinter Woody Creek.
She is followed by South African Group 1 winner Cloth Of Cloud, the well-bred Galileo mare Newton’s Night (Lot 7), who produced this season’s listed-winning and group-placed Treasure Isle, and Moraless, an half-sister to Group 2 winners Hunting Horn and David Livingston.
Two more blacktype mares feature- the multiple stakes-placed Galileo mare Know Thyself and Group 2 runner-up Sedaka. Outside of the Southern Hemisphere Session, a further 29 broodmares feature in the catalogue.
The Glanvilles Stud offer the Shamardal mare Backstreet Girl (Lot 92), whose half-sister Starlust won the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint since she was bought for 9,000gns at the Tattersalls July Sale.
Offered in foal to commercial sire Calyx are Sli Phadraigin (Lot 117), a half-sister to dual Group 2 winner I Am Superman, and Qaseeda (Lot 115), a half-sister to Craven Stakes victor and 2000 Guineas third Skardu.
Breeders will also be interested in the breeding rights to sire sensation Havana Grey, top two-year-old sire Ardad and Harry Angel, a consistent source of stakes horses. The catalogue also features a one 50th share in Haatem’s sire Phoenix Of Spain.
Something for everyone
Progressive sprinter Fahreheit Seven (Lot 32), who is officially rated 82 after winning three of his last four starts, is among 49 horses in training. They also include horses from trainers David Marnane, David O’Meara, James Tate, John McConnell, Joseph O’Brien, Karl Burke, Michael Bell, Richard Fahey, Robert Cowell Sir Mark Prescott and Willie McCreery.
They are joined by 13 horses out of training, one point-to-point horse and three store horses. After withdrawals, the four remaining yearlings are by proven sires Arizona, Galileo Gold, Oasis Dream and Pinatubo.
The six foals include a half-sister to a stakes performer, by promising young sire Mohaather (Lot 80), and a Blue Bresil filly out of a half-sister to Yorkhill (Lot 79).
Tattersalls Online enjoyed a notable success story this week when Raknah was sold by Ballintry Stud for 350,000gns at the December Mares Sale.
She had been bought by BBA Ireland from Andrew Balding through the Tattersalls Online September Sale last year for just 25,000gns, and the Blue Point filly enhanced her value when winning the Listed Corrib Fillies Stakes at Galway for Jessica Harrington in August.
