DONAL White in Foxwood Stud must have been delighted last week with the news that Ihaveauseforyou made a successful debut at Fontainebleau, and would not have been one bit unhappy that Galopin Des Champs won the Gold Cup either. Both successes bode well for his stallion Night Wish.
The Cork stallion master was probably even happier with the post-race comments of Ihaveauseforyou’s trainer Noel George, who said: “She is the first Night Wish I’ve had, and we knew she was decent. She jumped well, and we will look to step her up in grade next.” Ihaveauseforyou won in the colours of her breeder, Shaun Couling.
The four-year-old Ihaveauseforyou is from the second crop of Night Wish (Sholokhov), and the first, numbering just 34 foals, contained Odiago, winner of the Listed Prix Fifrelet over hurdles at Auteuil as a three-year-old on his last start. Early results such as these, and given the successes enjoyed recently by French-bred stock, are bound to make Irish breeders go and see Night Wish.
Bred in Germany by the world-famous Gestüt Etzean, Night Wish was a high-class and tough racehorse who ran until he was six and was very sound. He stands 16.3 hands, was successful over 10 and 11 furlongs, won the Group 3 Grand Prix de Vichy in France and was a listed winner in Germany. He was twice placed at the top level in Germany.
On the first of these occasions he finished third to Ivanhowe and Sea The Moon in the Group 1 Grosser Preis von Baden, and he was only two lengths off the winner when third to Empoli and Earl Of Tinsdal in the Group 1 Preis von Europa.
Night Wish is a son of Sholokhov (Sadler’s Wells), sire of Grade 1 winners Don Cossack, Bob Olinger, Shishkin, Esmondo and Porticello and also grandsire of the immensely talented Galopin Des Champs (Timos).
A Group 1 winner over a mile at two, Sholokhov was runner-up in both the Group 1 Irish Derby and the Group 1 Eclipse Stakes, and as a juvenile was placed in the Group 1 National Stakes at the Curragh.
A full-brother to the Group 1 Preis der Diana-German Oaks and Group 1 Grosser Preis von Baden winner Night Magic (Sholokhov), Night Wish is out of the stakes-placed Monsun (Konigsstuhl) mare Night Woman.
She bred yet another group winner in the shape of Night Music (Sea The Stars), successful in both the Group 2 Gran Premio di Milano and the Group 2 Premio Federico Tesio. Night Wish’s third dam Novelle (Northfields) also won the German Oaks.
Night Wish was well supported during his first few seasons at Haras de Montaigu with the likes of Sarah Faulks, Pascal Noue, Neustrian Associates, Madame Patrick Papot, Catherine Coffier and Goldford Stud using him. He looks sure to be equally popular in Ireland.
