ITBA Next Generation got the flat racing season off to a start at Naas Racecourse last weekend with a highly successful breeze-up seminar. Over 80 attendees packed into the room to hear about insights into the breeze-up sector.

The discussion was chaired by Sally Ann Grassick, and included panellists Ross Doyle, Brendan Holland, Katie McGivern, Michael O’Callaghan and Roger O’Callaghan.

The panel covered the sales from the perspectives of consignors, trainers and agents. They spoke about how they prepare for the sales, selecting stock and current opportunities and potential threats.

All panellists agreed that it can be a tough game for newcomers to get into and you need to be realistic when taking the first steps.

They spoke about getting experience with seasoned players who have been in the game for a long time, learning from where they made their mistakes, rather than making your own.

They also advised that the best way is to pool resources together to allow you to invest in better quality and give you a better advantage going forward.

Ross O’Mahony, ITBA Next Generation chairman, commented: “There were plenty of insights to gain from all the speakers and loads of laughs throughout the morning.

“We are extremely grateful to Naas Racecourse for all their help in hosting the seminar. The attendances for our Next Gen events continues to grow, and we look forward to welcoming everyone to our next event. The support from our industry leaders when putting together these events is fantastic and it’s great that they’re so willing to share their expertise with those eager to learn.”

Details of future ITBA Next Generation events will be posted on social media.
