NEXT week’s three-day mixed renewal at Cavan brings the curtain down on a highly successful sales’ year. Stuart Clarke and his team have enjoyed a string of good results this season, and this final catalogue from 2022 should bring more of the same.

Selling over a full three days, Wednesday’s action will focus on the performance stock, while the sale of young stock and mares will take place on Thursday. This latter group, which as usual incorporates the Winter Foal Collection, is highlighted by the appearance of a sibling to Bertram Allen’s Tokyo Olympic horse Pacino Amiro (1.60m) and by the current RDS Mo Chroi champion HHS Flonix (Mikey Pender).

Looking at the sires on day one, the stallion list is varied, but holding a commanding presence, Sligo Candy Boy heads the table with 13 on offer. Among the remainder with several progeny forward are the Selle Français jumping sire Koro d’Or (4) and Numero Cruise (3). The Howley family’s Sligo Candy Boy also dominates Thursday’s young stock selection where, with 14 representatives on offer, he leads Corporal VDL (6).

Finally, Friday’s shorter session centres on the Irish Draught breeding stock among which are a selection of foals, mares and potential riding stock. The stallion tables show that Inisfree The Holy Grail is the standout sire with seven forward, while The Bachelor is also well represented with five.
