WILLIE Mullins delivered yet another impressive training performance, as Jimmy Du Seuil overcame a 10-month absence to land the Coral Cup Handicap Hurdler under a jubilant Danny Mullins.

Runner-up to Ballyburn in the Gallagher Novices’ Hurdle 12 months ago, the Edward Ware-owned bay had not been seen since the Punchestown Festival, when he was well-beaten in the Champion Novice Hurdle. Sent off 16/1 on return, he caught the eye jumping the third last, as he travelled well behind the leaders.

Pushed along turning for home, he was ridden to lead after the final flight and stayed on strongly to win by three lengths. Nicky Henderson’s progressive charge Impose Toi kept on in second, with a length back to the Henry de Bromhead-trained Ballyadam in third.

After crossing the line, Danny immediately praised his uncle, saying: “Credit goes to Willie Mullins – coming here with no run this season, prepared for a handicap like that, no run in a handicap… it’s just great to be a part of that team.

“It was unbelievable. The snow this morning was what I thought would help his chances. It was quite testing ground here last year. In fairness to him, the last furlong was always going to be that difficult furlong, but he hit the line very strong. That’s a great performance, he’s a good little pony!

“This is the place we all want to come every year. I’ve been lucky enough to ride winners here before, but you don’t take any of them for granted – any time you get to the top of the hill in front, that’s a special feeling.”
