This looks all about Gordon Elliott’s Kaleosun. Purchased for €215,000 after winning his AQPS race in Durtal, France, the son of No Risk At All can be assumed to be talented and ought to be putting up a big show here with most of his rivals possessing more modest profiles on their hurdles debuts.

Hands On has a bit of experience over hurdles already, having finished just over eight lengths off Wodhooh at Listowel, and that should stand to him. He can give the likely favourite most to do.

Black Bamboo can get off the mark. John Murphy’s gelding has shown a decent level in maiden hurdles this summer, most notably when third to High Class Hero at Galway, and even though he was fifth of six to Lucid Dreams at Killarney on his latest run, he was only beaten six lengths after a mistake late on, in what looked like a stronger race to what he faces now.

Iceberg Theory is noted on his hurdles debut. He showed a hint of ability when third to The Yellow Clay in a Leopardstown bumper last March and may be able to make an impact.

This looks a good opportunity for Declan Queally’s mare Desert Heather, who arrives here on a hat-trick, albeit on her seasonal debut. She was in really good form when last seen, really staying on strongly to take a Kilbeggan handicap hurdle over just short of three miles and then she beat the subsequent Kerry National winner Desertmore House in a deeper race at the same track. With her allowance, she’ll be tough to beat if she can run close to her mark of 128.

Solitary Man looks dangerous. Enda Bolger’s gelding has won two of his last three, and seems to be progressing nicely. He has race fitness on side, is proven over the trip and may well jump forward again.

Toor Moon has put together two solid runs and may have enough to go one better now in this trappy handicap hurdle. The six-year-old finished third to Mr Social at Tramore but built on that effort when just touched off by the progressive Londonofficecallin at Killarney. He races off just a 2lb higher mark and only has six starts to his name over hurdles.

Getabelle is noted also. She ran easily her best race when just a half length off Blenheim Belle over this course and distance in August.

She may well improve from that and has just a 2lb higher mark to contend with. Mikita has done little over hurdles so far but showed a flash of ability when third at Fairyhouse on her most recent start, and makes her handicap debut now.

Herculaneum catches the eye on his return to hurdles.

Noel Kelly’s gelding has improved significantly on the flat since his last hurdles run, notably winning a Down Royal handicap by seven lengths and finishing third to Mon Couer at Galway. His flat rating is now 81 and he is rated 90 over hurdles so if he can transfer that newfound ability to this discipline, he’ll be difficult to beat.

Ballydangan comes into this off the back of his good run to finish second to Mich Charlie at Fairyhouse. That was easily a career best on what was just his second handicap hurdle start so he should have more to offer.

A chance is taken on Butterflyvespiere in the hope she might just get away with the ground. Peter Fahey’s mare never looked like threatening the classy Heia at Tramore, but she ran much better than her first two tries over fences, finishing just six lengths away in second. If she can step forward from that race, she’ll be thereabouts here.

Like the selection, plenty of these have question marks. Potters Party could be the best chasing prospect out of the lot but he took a bad fall on chase debut and that isn’t ideal.

Mc Alpine has to defy a long absence but he showed plenty of ability at this level over hurdles, and unlike a few of his rivals, this sort of trip should suit him, providing he can jump well.

Cayd Boy (pictured right) has always appealed as a talented sort on his day and he might able to claim another nice pot for Liz Doyle.

The eight-year-old gelding has done a lot of his best work on his first run of the season, notably pushing Impervious close at Wexford last term and he won a Grade B handicap hurdle at Down Royal first time up back in 2020. He ran reasonably well in the two good early season two-mile handicap chases at Fairyhouse last term and has been given a little break from the handicapper now, racing off a mark of 131. He handles this sort of ground so this might just be the time to catch him.

It’s a very competitive heat. Indiana Jones was last seen finishing third to El Fabiolo at Punchestown having put together a fine run of form towards the end of last season. He has to concede weight all around on seasonal debut so a better second option may be the hat-trick seeking Fighting Fit. Philip Dempsey’s eight-year-old has scored at the Galway and Listowel festivals and will have no problem with softer conditions tomorrow.

Willie and Patrick Mullins have made hay in bumpers so far this season and can continue that trend with Glowing Account. The Ballylinch Stud-owned gelding was a smooth winner on debut at Listowel and can deal with a winner’s penalty to make it two out of two.

Icare D’aubrelle put up a nice performance on debut at Naas last February, staying on strongly to beat Trust Me Nate. He also has a winner’s penalty but should go well.

Your A Derry Girl was a surprise winner over this course and distance in August and may find this a little more difficult
