VIDA Tansey (List 1), Jane Whitaker (List 2) and Bernie Webb (List 3a) comprised the judging panel at last Sunday’s Eastern Region show in Marlton where, before Tansey, Sonya McCormack completed a cross-Grade double.

In the Elementary DI55, the Co Kildare-based competitor and coach claimed the honours on her own traditionally-bred Irish Sport Horse gelding Coosán Lucky Guy (70.36), a seven-year-old by Loughehoe Guy out of a Cruise On mare. In the earlier Novice DI27A, McCormack won with Annmarie Walsh’s ISH gelding Oakfield Jappeloup (70.86), a five-year-old Rebel Mountain grey.

Also on a Tansey-awarded score of 70.86%, McCormack’s daughter Laragh Byrne landed the five-runner Medium DI77 on the German Riding Pony, Steendieks Dali Gold, one of the two rides on whom she won four classes at Slieve Bloom just two days earlier. National champion Kevin Acres won the other Medium class, the Whitaker-judged DI65, with Victoria O’Connell’s Dutch Warmblood mare Laguna (65.31), an eight-year-old chesnut daughter of Valdez.

The best-supported class of the day with 10 runners was the Elementary DI52, where topping Webb’s overall leaderboard on 69.86% was Sara Glynn with her unregistered ISH mare Granny Jean’s Unicorn, the eight-year-old Jack Of Diamonds grey, on whom she competes at CCI3* level. There were eight starters in the Novice DI21, where Webb’s top score of 68.62 was awarded to Zara Glennon Cully riding her ISH mare Sika New Era, a black Tolan R six-year-old.

In the Junior Novice section, where she rode the tall ISH mare Baskin Kapuka, an Orestus eight-year-old, Jodie Scully won the Webb-judged, four-runner DI21 on 69.66% and the Tansey-assessed DI27A on 70, seeing off two rivals.
