Midland and Western Region Show Annaharvey

MAEVE Deverell was one of two riders to record a four-timer last Sunday at the Midland and Western Region show in Annaharvey Farm where the judging duties were divided between Danielle Carey and David Lee.

It was the latter who had home-based Deverell at the top of his leaderboards although the 13-year-old and her mother Aisling’s 10-year-old roan gelding Derravaragh Boy had no rivals to face in either of the two FEI pony tests.

There were few entries in the two Medium classes but, in both, Maeve and the Irish Sport Horse gelding Annaharvey Dunowen finished ahead of Aisling and Annaharvey Firefly. A nine-year-old dun by Radolin, Annaharvey Dunowen was bred by the rider’s grandfather, Henry Deverell, out of Who Dun It.

The other rider to notch up four wins was Simone Hession who topped the Category 3 scores in both Danielle Carey-judged Preliminary classes on the traditional home-bred mare Beezies Dawn Cruise, a six-year-old by CC Captain Cruise out of Beezies Rose (by Moot Point).

Hession came out best of the Category 3 riders at Novice level with the home-bred Connemara gelding Beezies Ripple, a 16-year-old grey by Gurteen Rebel out of Beezies Abbey (by Abbeyleix Owen).

Carey’s highest score of the day, 76.92%, was achieved in the Preliminary DI8 by Cassandra Morris and the Dressage Ireland newcomer Lots Of Joy, a six-year-old Dutch Warmblood gelding by Negro out of Ziriska C (by Krack C).

Lee awarded his highest score, 74.03%, in the Elementary DI56A to Category 2 rider Lorraine Kennedy and the former two-star eventer Major Furisto, an 18-year-old bay gelding by Garrison Royal out of Davitt Star (by Furisto) and thus a full-brother to Sarah Ennis’s Tokyo Olympics ride, Woodcourt Garrison.

In the first Elementary class, which was also judged by Lee, Kennedy and Major Furisto (65.83%) had to settle for second place among the Category 2 competitors as Rebecca McGrath claimed the honours on her mother Sinead’s German riding pony Terbofens Queen Two (67.08), a six-year-old chesnut mare by Quaterback.
