BERNIE Foley (List 2a) and David Lee (List 3) undertook the bulk of the judging at the Eastern Region show in Marlton last Sunday, backed up by Bernie Webb (List 3a) and Liz Daly (List 6).

As ever, the lower graded classes were the best supported and, while scores of 70% or more were hard to achieve during the day, Lee awarded two of these. His first went to Phillipa Teggin who topped the leaderboard in the Preliminary DI6 on her own Connemara mare, Glenmore Sunshine (70.38), a nine-year-old daughter of Rosscon Sunshine.

In the Novice BD37A, Lee’s winner was Kim McCann on board her 15-year-old Harlequin du Carel mare Bray Summer Breeze (70.74). In the second Novice class, the Foley-assessed DI21, List 4 judge Jean Halpenny took to the saddle to record the highest score with the unregistered ISH mare Shawslodge Cossino Bay (69.66), a four-year-old bay by the Irish Draught stallion Lionwood Kinsales Lad. Another unregistered horse, the Mairead Dolan-ridden Belperhill Aint She Sweet, a six-year-old Sinatra bay, topped Foley’s marks in the Preliminary DI5A on 68.93.

There were eight starters in the Lee-judged Elementary BD43 where he had two combinations on 67.76%, Category 3 rider Louise Doheny with her Hanoverian gelding Sandokan SBS, an 11-year-old by Sarkozy, and Category 2 competitor Taylor Deane riding the ISH gelding Candy Kid, a similarly-aged grey Sligo Candy Boy full-brother to the Grade A pony Candy Floss.

Berne Webb judged the other Elementary class, the DI55, where her overall winner was Siofra Pratt on her traditionally-bred ISH mare Ballarin My Grace (68.21%). Pratt and her 10-year-old Kings Master chesnut also competed in the Webb-judged Medium DI65, but here they finished off the pace set by Laragh Byrne and her European pony championships team ride, Steendieks Dali Gold (72.03), Jan Heine’s nine-year-old palomino gelding by FS Don’t Worry.
